It seems that 4 out of 5 years, the blooms on this lovely Crocus chysanthus
selection is ruined by inclement spring weather; late snowfalls, hard frosts,
ice storms, and downpours. This is one of the lucky years, and the small
cluster of bulbs flowered with pristine perfection.  It's hard to believe that
just one week prior to snapping this photo, there was over 30 cm of hard-
packed snow and ice on the ground.  This selection has a deep purple
blotch on the outside of the tepals, visible when the flowers are closed.
